Meeting Our Desires
The Project
From its starting place as a podcast to its transformation into an outdoor promenade theatre piece, Meeting Our Desires is a project that guides listeners and audiences through many stories of exploration of sex and intimacy during the COVID-19 pandemic. Created by reproductive justice artists and educators Alyssa Vera Ramos and Jessamyn Fitzpatrick, with audio engineering and eventual sound design by MG Green (banyanboii).
The Podcast
Alyssa and Jessamyn interview queer, sex-positive beloveds on how they navigated intimacy and sexuality throughout the dense period of isolation of the COVID 19 Pandemic. Listen to fellow reproductive justice advocates, sex workers, and community care workers tell their stories. Audio engineering and original music by banyanboii.
The Sound Design
The project expanded into an outdoor, experiential promenade devised theatre piece presented in partnership with Chicago Night Out in The Parks at Walking Stick Woods on August 5th & 6th, 2022. The original cast recorded brief stories which served as the basis for audiocollages - composed of snippets of these voice memos and original music created by banyanboii. The cast led the audience through the creaking woods listening to music, story, and encountering performers.
*Periods of silence in audiocollages are intended for moments of listening to abounding nature.
